Status Update & Scheduling Info ♥ San Diego Photographer

Hello all!

I have serious blog guilt!  I have a folder full of stuff to post and it’s just been so crazy busy lately that I haven’t had the time.  Just know it isn’t because I fell off the face of the Earth… nope… it’s because I’ve been so busy!

With that in mind I need to tell you to please, PLEASE try and contact me as early as possible if you are interested in a session.  I know, if you are pregnant you’re probably saying, “Melissa… I don’t know when the baby will be born… how do I schedule???”  GREAT QUESTION!  We schedule a date and then you march into your OB and demand an induction or C-section about a week before.  I’M KIDDING! (Unless your OB would go for that!)  No, what I tell everyone is that if you contact me and let me know your interested in a newborn session, I will put your due date on my calendar so I can consider it for planning purposes.  I build in a little wiggle room each week for those babies who either can’t wait to get here OR decide they don’t want to come out on time.  ;) That said, I HAVE been scheduling at almost full capacity for the last six months solid.  So that’s why at this time I’m encouraging everyone to contact me as soon as they can.  Here are some good guidelines to follow:

MATERNITY SESSIONS:  Everyone is different and it really depends on how your pregnancy is developing.  I usually recommend having maternity portraits done between 28-32 weeks.  This is a great time because usually you LOOK good and pregnant but you haven’t yet hit the stage where you are likely to swell (the last 4-6 weeks).  If you are still pretty small at 32 weeks you could push it to around 35-36 weeks.  I don’t like to push it any further than that because some babies decide they just can’t wait to get out.  Also, if you are carrying multiples we would probably discuss having you come in even earlier.

NEWBORN SESSIONS:  The earlier the better!  In fact, just give me a call and swing by on the way home from the hospital.  Again, I kid!  :)  Actually I like to see the babies around 7-10 days.  I think it is important (especially for first time parents) to get to know your baby a little bit.  You’ll find that every day you fall in love with her a little bit more and that is what I want to capture for you.  If you are looking for those curled up, sleepy baby portraits… one week old is my recommendation.

MILESTONES SESSIONS:  These take place approximately when baby is 4, 8 & 12 months.  Please schedule your Milestones Session about 2 weeks in advance.

CHILDREN’S SESSIONS:  For kids over the age of one year you should schedule about 2 weeks in advance.

FAMILY SESSIONS:  Please schedule family sessions about 3 weeks in advance.

That should give you some information and guidelines to consider when scheduling your session.  I’m happy to talk to you about your specific needs and timing and you can reach me at 619-946-7420.

Some of you may have heard that I might have to move out of the building I’m in.  That is true but I’m still in the process of looking.  Nothing has grabbed me just yet.  For now it’s business as usual!  Thanks so much and I promise… I will post some session pictures soon!  :)

  • Matt beskin - Wanted to get some prices on maternity packages. My wife is 24 weeks and her birthday is on march 19th. I wanted to see if we could get a package that has some maternity pictures and after we have the baby we could come in and take some newborn pictures. Do you have anything like that?ReplyCancel
